Dental Implants

About Dental Implants

Implant dentistry is a specialised field for the replacement of missing teeth. This is done with titanium fixtures placed in the jawbone. These fixtures are used to support missing teeth. Dentists will place the titanium fixtures, and some time is necessary for the bone to heal completely around these fixtures, after which crowns can be placed via intermediate abutments.

At AIS Campus, we are committed in delivering quality and value-driven implant services that are closely aligned with our dental professionals’ training objectives. While maintaining high standards of care, we also ensure that these services are accessible to Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Our approach emphasizes the importance of delivering effective dental care while keeping costs manageable for patients.

Our framework focuses on optimising resources and leveraging advanced technology to provide cost-effective care. By integrating efficient practices and durable materials, we ensure patients receive predictable and effective implant treatments at an affordable cost. This approach not only makes dental implants more accessible but also supports the long-term sustainability of dental care in Singapore.

Our commitment to affordability and efficiency helps ensure that dental implant treatments are within reach for a larger segment of the population, promoting better oral health outcomes across the community.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Improve Your Chewing Efficiency

Dental implants significantly improve bite force compared to dentures, leading to more efficient chewing and an enhanced food tasting experience.

Better health through better diet

Compromises in chewing efficiency will affect the choice of food in our daily diet. When chewing efficiency is affected, patients tend to favour soft food, which is high in sugar and fat, and avoid fibrous or tougher food, which is higher in protein and vitamins. Replacing teeth with dental implants will enable patients to have a more balanced diet through improvement in chewing efficiency.

No Pain from Dentures

Loose and ill-fitting dentures can cause ulcers and cuts into the gum tissue. Implants can secure the denture and prevent such painful daily experiences. There are a few types of implant dentures, such as on-implant dentures, fixed removable prothesis, or Pro-Arch prothesis.

Improve Self-Esteem and Confidence

Missing teeth or loose dentures can negatively impact our patients’ self-esteem and confidence. These issues often lead to patients avoiding smiling, speaking, or participating in social activities. However, with proper tooth replacement using a dental implant, patients can talk and smile confidently without fearing their dentures dropping during a conversation.

Anti-Ageing Effect

The loss of teeth leads to a “sunken-in” appearance, which is typically associated with ageing. When patients replace their teeth with dental implants, these teeth support the lips and cheeks, resulting in a more desirable appearance.

Dental Implant Treatment Process

First Consultation

1. Relevant X-rays will be taken, and our dentist will perform a comprehensive examination.

2. Our dentist will discuss your pre-existing dental condition, and the treatment required to save your natural teeth.

3. Our discussion of the treatment plan for implants is designed to ensure your full understanding. It includes information on the duration of treatment, phases of treatment, implant brands and materials used, cost, and the maintenance protocol. This knowledge will empower you to make informed decisions about your dental health.

4. For complex implants or other dental needs, we will refer you to our clinics across Singapore.

Placement of Implant

1. Dentists will gently insert a titanium implant under local anaesthesia in our purpose-built surgical suite.

2. Implant surgeries can also be performed while a patient is under sedation. It helps patients to sleep through the procedure comfortably.

3. Once the implant is placed, the implant site can heal for about 1-2 months. During this time, the jawbone is allowed to heal around the implant. Temporary restoration may be placed during this phase for aesthetic and functional reasons.

Placement of New Teeth

1. After osseointegration of the titanium implants to bone, dentists will take a mould of your implants.

2. Each crown is custom-made by our in-house technician. The crown is meticulously designed to match the neighbouring teeth as closely as possible, ensuring a pleasing aesthetic outcome.

How Long is the Surgery?

In most cases, implant surgeries can be completed in 30 minutes. However, adequate time should be given for the patient to have all his/her questions answered and to prepare for the surgery in an unhurried fashion.

Care for Your Implants

1. Implants are like our natural teeth and need to be cleaned daily. They also need to be checked regularly and be cleaned by dentists.

2. Professional cleaning of implants is done with special instruments; otherwise, the implant surface will be damaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are suitable candidates for dental implants?

Most patients are suitable candidates for implant treatment. In general, patients in reasonably good health, can undergo dental implant treatment.

Patients with conditions like uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure are not suitable candidates for dental implant treatment. However, once they have brought those conditions under control, a review to determine their suitability can be arranged again.

Our advice is to have a thorough examination with your dentist. It is not advisable to proceed with implant treatment without first having a detailed discussion with your dentist.

How long do implants last?

According to a current research, implants have a success rate of 95% in the last 10 years. However, parts of the implant may need replacement during the research period. Hence, it is important to use implant that is manufactured by reputable companies, so that replacement parts can be sourced easily when necessary.

Do implants need special maintenance?

Implants are like our natural teeth and need to be cleaned daily. They will also need to be checked and cleaned regularly by your dentist. Professional cleaning of implants is done with special instruments to prevent damage to the surface of the implant.

Can I use Medisave?

Yes, you can use Medisave to cover part of the cost of dental procedures like implants. For implant procedures, you can typically claim up to $1250 from your Medisave account. The remaining amount, after deducting Medisave will be your out-of-pocket cost.
