Restoring teeth in the aesthetic zone often puts restorative dentists at a crossroads: should we preserve the natural tooth or extract and replace it? This lecture presents a clear, restorative-driven framework for making predictable, evidence-based decisions.
We will review key diagnostic factors—remaining tooth structure, periodontal stability, endodontic prognosis, soft-tissue biotype, occlusion, and patient expectations—that determine whether a tooth is restorable.
When preservation is possible, we will cover restorative strategies such as adhesive buildups, post-and-core rehabilitation, crown lengthening, periodontal regeneration, and minimally invasive ceramic restorations
When extraction is the better option, we will explore immediate and staged implants, socket preservation, resin-bonded bridges, conventional bridges, and other aesthetic replacement solutions.
This lecture emphasises preservation as the priority, while equipping restorative dentists with practical guidelines to choose the most predictable, long-term solution for each patient’s smile.
