Course Synopsis

The introduction of digital orthodontics and clear aligner therapy has broadened the scope of orthodontic treatments significantly. Clear aligner therapy is an essential part of orthodontic treatments, for adults and children alike. Planning aligner cases, treating patients with greater efficiency, and achieving the desired results is readily achievable if well managed. This course aims to provide a clear overview of the fundamental principles of clear aligner therapy, the scientific basis of tooth movements with aligners and the protocol for successful case selection and management.

Module 2—Case Selection: The Recipe to Aligner Success (18 Feb 2024)

  1. Appropriate case selection for clear aligner therapy
  2. Simple versus complex malocclusions
  3. Protocol for case submission
  4. Case review and modification of the simulation plan

Module 3—Managing the Essential Procedures throughout Clear Alignment Treatment (17 Mar 2024)

  1. Understanding the function and science of engagers/attachments & role of inter-proximal enamel reduction (IPR)
  2. Hands on session on engager bonding and IPR procedure
  3. Managing the first aligner fit appointment and each follow up appointment
  4. Guiding your patient to have a positive patient journey

Module 4—Revision for Perfection (7 Apr 2024)

  1. Understanding the importance of revision in clear aligner therapy
    How to utilize revision to achieve the optimal dental outcome
  2. Simple aligner troubleshooting techniques
  3. Managing aligner auxiliaries
  4. Tips for finishing cases
  5. Planning retention and learning how to place and manage fixed wire retainers

About Dr Thushala Ubaya

Dr Thushala Ubaya built a distinguished career in dentistry and orthodontics in the UK for over 20 years where she had been a Consultant Orthodontist on the NHS for just under a decade before returning recently to Singapore. Dr Ubaya obtained her Masters of Science in Orthodontics (University of Glasgow) and her Membership in Orthodontics (Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh) in 2009. She undertook further senior orthodontic training at King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital in London to obtain her Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2011. She was also a Clinical Lecturer and Mentor with the School of Dentistry at Queen Mary, University of London. Dr Ubaya is particularly passionate about managing children and adults with all types of dento-facial problems. She is an experienced clear aligner provider and has been involved in managing patients with clear aligner therapy for over 10 years.
